Tour of the homes and sites in the hometown of Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson & Louisa May Alcott

Seminar Includes:

  • A walking tour of Walden Pond
  • A guided tour of the Old Manse – home to both Hawthorne and Emerson
  • A visit to the Old North Bridge – site of “the shot heard ‘round the world” that began the American Revolution
  • A guided tour of the Orchard House – where Louisa May Alcott wrote Little Women
  • Visit the stately Emerson’s homestead
  • Visit the Wayside – home of both the Alcott family and the Hawthornes and the second Concord home of the Hawthornes
  • See the birthplace of Henry David Thoreau as well as the home in which he died
  • A walking tour of Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, visiting the graves of all four writers
  • See the site of the old Concord Jail where Thoreau spent one night
  • A guided walking tour of Walden Pond and the site of Thoreau’s pond house
  • A tour of the Concord Museum
  • Participate in a two-hour presentation on “The Concord Writers” – how their lives and literature were connected to Concord

Basic Trip Package

If you go on the trip by yourself, you receive round trip bus transportation, a private room at Best Western, attend the Concord Museum, Old Manse, and Orchard House tours. Your participation in the other tours is optional: the walking tour of Walden Pond and Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, the Concord Free Public Library, and the evening lecture. You receive a certificate for three hours of Professional Development.

OPTION A
- Include a Companion/Spouse

You and your spouse/companion want to take the trip together, but he/she does not need Professional Development hours certification (Can only be purchased in addition to the Basic Trip Package).

Price: additional $110.00


OPTION B
- Additional seven hours of Professional Development

Requires participation in all scheduled trip activities (Can only be purchased in addition to the Basic Trip Package).

Price: additional $70.00 per certificate for each additional 7 hours $70.00

At the conclusion of the trip, you will receive your customized certificate for your Professional Development hours. You will also receive a customized receipt that you can use for any reimbursement you may receive from your school district. AcademicAdvantageNJ is not responsible for any reimbursement that you may be entitled to. We will provide you with a certificate and a receipt. Actual reimbursement is between the teacher and his/her school district.
