Academic
Advantage NJ is the outgrowth of one New Jersey high school English
teacher’s fascination with American literature of the mid-19th
century. What began as a curious investigation has developed into
a commitment to promote that literature and those writers wherever
and whenever possible.
For the classroom teachers:
We believe that if the literature is alive for the teacher, that
enthusiasm will transfer to the students. We offer seminars for
teachers of the humanities that not only expands the teacher’s
knowledge base, broadens their experience, and excites their “ownership”
of literature but also impacts and enlivens their classrooms.
Our seminars include two-day trips to the homes and haunts of authors,
one-day meetings to review teaching strategies, and in-house staff
development retreats to explore new possibilities and proven strategies
that work.

We
focus on:
• Practical and proven methods to help all students become
more engaged in reading
• Personalization of teacher presentation of literary material
• Motivational techniques for both the teacher and the student
We are certified by the New Jersey Department of Education as a
provider of Professional Development hours. All seminar participants
will receive certificates for their participation.
For the mildly curious:
- we offer lectures, a Powerpoint presentation, and/or a personally
guided two-day bus tour of Concord itself for groups of 10 or more
(for more details, click on our “Tours” page).
